At five years of age on release the colour is starting to deepen but still showing a green tint and typical hay/straw characters becoming evident on the nose. In the next few years these will further develop to the lovely toast and honey expected of aged Hunter Valley Semillon.
1999 Kay Brothers Amery Hillside Shiraz

During the last decade of the 19th Century Herbert & Frederick Kay planted the first Shiraz vines on the Eastern hillside of their McLaren Vale Amery vineyard. In 1992 the last of those original hillside Shriaz plantings – Block 6 – celebrated its centenary and to commemorate this milestone, Herbert’s grandson Colin began replanting the old Hillside vineyard using cuttings taken from the anceint gnarled vines of Block 6. This is the third release from the new plantings and an outstanding continuation of the Hillside tradition. From the 15.47 tonnes of premium ‘Hillside Shiraz’ harvested on 1st April 1999, Colin Kay has made a truly memorable wine. An inviting combination of sweet ripe berry aromas, intense purple red colour and concentrated full bodied flavours. Further bottle maturation will allow this superb Shiraz to reach its full potential and we recommend decanting 1 hour prior to drinking. We trust you will receive as much pleasure from ths unique wine as we did making it.
